Ecologistas en Acción published a survey to evaluate the quality of the rivers, lakes and dams waters that have bath areas. The bath areas, when having a periodic monitoring of the quality of its waters, turns them into a simple and didactic indicator about the condition of these ecosystems.

Ecologistas en Acción has three objectives for this collection of information: condemn and fight against the threats that damage the conservation of the aquatic ecosystems and the good quality of water of a bath area. Make an internal register on non-catalogued bath areas, and therefore without surveillance on the quality of their waters. And finally, update the report about the continental water baths that the environmental organization made in 2007.

The reason of making this report was either the reiterative sentences or the fines to the Spanish Government for breaking the directive about the quality of the interior water baths. The report concluded that 68% of the areas of bath catalogued initially by the Spanish Government (1994 catalogue) had disappeared as if by magic, although they continued being used by swimmers. The reason for this situation was that for the Administration it was easier to unlist the bath areas that did not fulfilled the minimum legal parameters of quality, that start up the necessary measures to solve the contamination problems.

In this occasion, it is suggested that the information exposed in the questionnaire comes from groups and users who know the condition and the bath areas problems, to elaborate the continental water bath report of 2008.

Ecologistas en Acción want all the people that had any interest on the conservation of the aquatic fresh water ecosystems to participate, with the purpose of being able to carry out a good monitoring and to denounce the possible deterioration of the biggest environmental, social and cultural value of rivers and lakes.
