The demonstration that took place last Saturday 20th of June in Talavera de la Reina was a landmark in the history of the Tajo's basin. A peculiar moment in which, next to the obvious, citizen's clamour in favour of the rivers and against the transfer Tajo-Segura, contrasted the opportunist and contradictory speech of the majority political parties and the agricultural and business organizations. This situation, by misfortune, has impregnate the call and probably has stopped the demonstration of being numerous and coherent.

Ecologistas en Acción think that the Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha, the Central government, the PSOE, the PP, the businessmen and irrigators have a way of acting opposite to the main nature of the demonstration and that their positions jeopardized the recovery of the river Tajo, because what they are looking for is to satisfy political and territorial interests inside and outside of Castilla-La Mancha or sectorial requests.

Ecologistas en Acción are calling them together to assume that the best guarantee of sustainable development for the Basin is a clean river Tajo and with a flow, without transfers or reservoirs and, consequently, to reformulate their approaches and actions.
The important citizen's participation in the demonstration of Talavera de la Reina, exposes that there is a strong feeling in the Tajo's basin and, particularly, in the province of Toledo, that the situation of the Basin can not continue like that.

Burden because of the transfer Tajo-Segura, because of the increase of demands for the irrigation and supplying, because of the contamination and, especially, because of the hypocrisy of politicians and the inefficiency of solicitors, the Tajo's basin needs a comprehensive recovery that can not wait anymore.

Ecologistas en Acción think that nowadays the defence of the river Tajo does not have a political reference to move and to defend coherently the defence and recovery of the Basin.

Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha and, specially, the presidency of José María Barreda, is burdened because of his bet for the transfer of the river Tajo to the Llanura Manchega and because of the endorsement of an statute that is hindering his declaring against the transfer from the middle Tajo.

Apart from following a senseless incentivized policy of the demands for irrigation and supplying to justify the lack of surplus to send them to the river Segura.

The Community Board of Extremadura and the region of Madrid are just playing for the opportunism and they use the river Tajo as bargaining chip in their political aspirations.

The Central government, the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine and the PSOE, are trapped on the intention of getting back votes in the east of Spain and they have join the nationalist speech in hydrological policy that the PP began.
The rest of the Autonomous Communities governed by the PP and this party, have not got out yet from the time machine, and it have them frozen defending the National Hydrological Plan (NHP) of Aznar with all its transfers and reservoirs and without assuming that the excess of demand is the main problem on the hydrological management in Spain.

We have to remember the city councils of the Tajo's Basin that have demonstrate in Talavera that its position is illogical with its town-planning policy. The unsustainable growth that the local development framework of Aranjuez, Toledo and Talavera de la Reina is not compatible with a clean river with flow and without transfers inside the basin.

Finally, we have to criticize the opinion of the business sector and the irrigators. They just defend their own economic interests and they claim water for their businesses. What is interesting about it is that among the lots of comments heard these days, Asaja has ask for a solution to the illegal wells in La Mancha, that the irrigators of Talavera and Castrejón have demonstrate while their irrigations are drying up the river and the irrigators of Vera are passionate defenders of the infrastructures that gave them more water.

Ecologistas en Acción considers that the recovering of the Tajo's Basin has to be in 2010 with the Hydrological Plan of Cuenca. And for that to happen is absolutely necessary that the responsibles of its approval, that are the Central government, the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine and the Autonomous Communities have to give up political considerations and nationalisms of the water and be centred to adapt the Plan to the legal rules that demand the recovery of the good environmental condition of the waters. To achieve that it is necessary to be aware of the significant reduction of the existing hydrological resources, the forecast of the reduction even bigger because of climate change, the pernicious effects that the maintenance of the Tajo-Segura transfer has, and the terrible option that suppose keeping a demands growth policy in the Basin.
